Seattle’s Eckstein Middle School dominated this past weekend’s Reno Jazz Festival, picking up two first-place ensemble awards and several individual prizes. Garfield High School and Roosevelt High School also took top honors.

Here are the tallies for Seattle-area schools in this highly competitive festival.

In individual awards for outstanding middle-school performers, the winners from Eckstein were Gaby Green (vocals), Madeline Toll (saxophone), Matt Gasper (trumpet) and Cormack Liotta (rhythm section/bass). Porter Jones, from Roosevelt High School, won an individual award for trombone.

In ensemble categories, Eckstein units won first and second place for best middle-school combo and took first for best middle-school band. Eckstein also took second for best middle-school choir.

Washington Middle School ensembles, also from Seattle, placed third and fourth for best middle-school band.

Roosevelt ensembles placed first and third in the AA high-school combo category.
