Gail Pettis at Jazz Alley, April 19-20

Vocalist Gail Pettis will at Jazz Alley for a special two-night run April 19-20.

April 19-20: JAZZ ALLEY
2033 6th Avenue
Seattle WA 98121
Reservations: 206-441-9729
Tickets are only $10.00

Pettis, the four-time nominee and 2010 winner of Earshot Golden Ear Awards “Northwest Vocalist of the Year,” traveled to Kobe, Japan in 2006 to perform as a guest artist at KAVC Hall as First Place winner of the Seattle-Kobe Female Jazz Vocalist Audition.

Her debut performance at Jazz Alley will serve as a fundraiser for Japan earthquake relief. Donated covers collected will go to the Japanese Red Cross Society.

“I have felt a connection to the people of Japan ever since my visit to Kobe. The their warm hospitality and enthusiasm for jazz has left a lifelong impression on me and I’m thrilled at the opportunity to give back in some small way,” Pettis said.

Pettis’ performance will feature a different rhythm section each night. On Tueday, April 19, Pettis will be joined by Darin Clendenin (piano), Clipper Anderson (bass) and Mark Ivester (drums), all of which appeared on her recent OA2 release, Here In The Moment. On Wednesday, April 20, she will be joined by her rhythm section from May I Come In? – Randy Halberstadt (piano), Jeff Johnson (bass) and Mark Ivester (drums).

There is another jazz benefit for Japan at The Kirkland Performance Center on Monday, April 18. Click here for more information.

ICP Orchestra brings zany Dutch mischief to SAM

from The Seattle Times:

The International Composers Pool (ICP) Orchestra, pictured here, doesn’t just invent music in the moment, it plays with the idea of how that music gets made. Mischievous, zany, fox-quick and witty, all the players in this 44-year-old Dutch tentet can tap dance on a dime. (Sadly, pianist and composer Misha Mengelberg left the tour earlier this week for health reasons.) Whether bearding the classics with hippity-hoppity horns or playing ineffably beautiful sustains on violin, cello and bass, ICP always offers something you didn’t expect. Why? Because you never heard it before. ICP performs at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Seattle Art Museum, Volunteer Park, Seattle; $10-$20 (206-547-6763 or earshot.org).

Madeleine Peyroux returns to Jazz Alley

from The Seattle Times:

She’s got a new album coming out soon (“Standin’ on the Rooftop”), and what better way to launch it than with a tour that begins in Seattle? The merveilleux Madeleine Peyroux, she of the languorous voice redolent of smoky Parisian nightspots of yore, visits Jazz Alley with her combo and a cache of tunes old and new. On the song list no doubt will be cuts from her latest, “rootsier” disc, which includes a song by Lennon-McCartney and material by Peyroux herself.
