JAZZ ALLEY: Louis Hayes and the Cannonball Legacy Band Featuring, Vincent Herring (saxophones) and Jeremy Pelt (trumpet)
2033 6th Ave, 206-441-9729, 7:30pm
From Earshot Jazz: For one night only, drummer Louis Hayes is in Jazz Alley with Vincent Herring (alto sax), Jeremy Pelt (trumpet), Rick Germanson (piano) and Dezron Douglas (bass), December 9, 7:30pm. From 1950s Detroit with Yusef Lateef, Kenny Burrell, Doug Watkins to NYC at age 18 with the Horace Silver Quintet, drummer Louis Hayes eventually joined Cannonball in 1959. His current leadership of the Cannonball Legacy Band pays tribute to the gifts of heritage in the art form. Grammy Award-winning saxophonist Vincent Herring is a virtuosic voice, uniquely intense and vigorous with energy and direction. First with Lionel Hampton’s big band, he later worked with Nat Adderley. Herring is currently on staff at William Patterson University. Young trumpeter Jeremy Pelt has forged ahead from his early start with the Mingus Big Band. Also in the band, pianist Rick Germanson and bassist Dezron Douglas.
