Dimitriou’s Jazz Alley honors the memory of late legendary bassist Buddy Catlett who performed with such musical greats as Frank Sinatra, Sarah Vaughan, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Quincy Jones, Ray Charles, and countless others. There will be a special concert, “Buddy Catlett: Celebration of Life,” on Dec. 1, from 7:30 pm to 10:30 pm. The concert will include performances by The Legacy Quartet with Clarence Acox, The Bob Hammer Trio featuring Ham Carson with pianist Bob Hammer, clarinetist/saxophonist Ham Carson, drummer Ken French, and bassist Michael Barnett, and other special guests. Folks are welcome to join the jam sessions.

Catlett, who passed on Nov. 12, performed in venues all over the world, including Dimitriou’s Jazz Alley, and on the often-heard recording of “Fly Me to the Moon” with Count Basie and Frank Sinatra, as well as “What a Wonderful World” with Louis Armstrong. He received local recognition for his musical accomplishments in 1991 when he was inducted by Earshot Jazz into the Seattle Jazz Hall of Fame. Then on February 21, 2008, when the City of Seattle proclaimed it Buddy Catlett Day.

This is a free, all-ages event. Jazz Alley is located at 2033 6th Ave. in downtown Seattle. Free parking is located at 2010 5th Avenue in the Westin Building Garage (not The Westin Hotel Garage).
