from The Seattle Times:

It’s January, so at EMP, it’s time for jazz.

The two-day Jazz in January celebration — co-presented by Earshot Jazz — will include jazz-band performances from Roosevelt and Garfield high schools; an onstage interview session with international percussion legend Han Bennink; and a headlining concert from the Cuong Vu Trio (pictured). Events take place today and Saturday at EMP|SFM, in Seattle Center at 325 Fifth Ave. N. The schedule:

7 p.m. today, Sky Church: Roosevelt Jazz Band with guest Cuong Vu and the Garfield Jazz Ensemble with guest Tom Marriott.

3 p.m. Saturday, JBL Theater: Jim Wilke of Public Radio International conducts an onstage interview with Han Bennink for EMP’s Oral History Live! project.

7 p.m. Saturday, Sky Church: Cuong Vu Trio (Vu, bassist Stomu Takeishi and drummer Ted Poor) play with opener Paul Rucker, local multi-instrumentalist.

Tickets: $5-$15 (some events are free for EMP|SFM members; information at 206-770-2702 or www.empsfm.org).
