Roosevelt Jazz Band: Off To Europe

Roosevelt Big Band leaves for Europe today.

Jazz bands from Roosevelt and Garfield have shared their work for international audiences every summer for over a decade. Last summer, The Garfield Jazz Band went to Europe and performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland and The Umbria Jazz Festival in Perugia, Italy. And this Monday, The Roosevelt Jazz Band is heading to France and Italy for a 16 day performance tour. With performances scheduled at an ancient Roman amphitheater at Jazz ‘a Vienne in France, Piazza IV Novembre at the Umbria Jazz Festival and the dedication of a totem poll from the Seattle-Perugia sister city organization, The Roosevelt Jazz Band is excited to represent our city for international audiences.

Roosevelt Jazz Band member Andy Clausen will be posting photos and updates from the road over the next two weeks.

Friday: Andrew Boscardin’s Nickel and Brass Septet

 

 

 

Nickel and Brass is a series of new musical works composed by Andrew Boscardin to be premiered on June 20 at 8pm at the Chapel Performance Space, 4649 Sunnyside Ave. N, Seattle. The pieces – combining elements of jazz, rock, new music and improvisation – feature a unique ensemble with an emphasis on the low brass and the electric guitar and their combined range of sonic possibilities. Along with Boscardin on guitar, the band features Chris Stover on trombone, Ben Thomas on vibes, Clark Gibson on saxophones, Tom Varner on French horn, Jon Hamar on bass, and Brad Gibson on drums.

Roosevelt Jazz Band’s Year End Concert

The Roosevelt Jazz Band will be performing this Friday at the Roosevelt High School Theatre. This concert is your last chance to hear the band before they head off to Europe for 16 days on June 30th. With a diverse repertoire ranging from Count Basie and Duke Ellington to Jim Knapp and Maria Schneider, the band is excited to present this free concert showcasing their progress over the past year.
