from The Seattle Times:

Kendrick Scott (pictured), one of the hottest young drummers in jazz, headlines the Bellevue Jazz Festival next week with his group Oracle, which features probing ex-Seattle pianist Aaron Parks. Scott, a man with a message who deals deftly with politics and spirituality — on his recent album, “Conviction,” he does Sufjan Stevens’ “Too Much” and Herbie Hancock’s “I Have a Dream” — is joined by saxophonist John Ellis, guitarist Matt Stevens and bassist Joe Sanders. Appropriately, Seattle bassist Evan Flory-Barnes, who also soaks his music in meaning, opens the show. The festival features pianist Cyrus Chestnut with vibraphonist Stefon Harris, as well as more than 40 acts at various venues in the Bellevue downtown core and runs from Wednesday through June 2. Oracle performs at 7:30 p.m. May 31 at the Theatre at Meydenbauer Center, 11100 N.E. Sixth St., Bellevue; $12-$24 (425-453-1223 or www.bellevuejazz.com).
